Our World Cup film ‘Leopard of Congo’ is available now - thoughts? 📽️⚽️🇨🇩

SYNOPSIS
Under the rule of fierce dictator Mobutu Sese Seko, the most talented side of a Congolese generation go on to win the Africa Cup of Nations in 1974 and book a place at their first ever World Cup.

BACKGROUND
We made this as a proof of concept for a bigger story, filmed across 3 days in Kinshasa with local crew & cast.

Filmed across 2 days in the capital with local crew & cast, we wanted to capture the essence of the country on film in a way that has not been seen in a long time by taking us back to the 50s and 70s 🇨🇩🤩

This is a real full circle moment so thanks to the whole team for bringing this one home 🌍 I’m looking forward to the premiere with everyone at @ifhalledelagombe & @academie_des_beaux_arts_repost later this month for our first official screening 🍿👀

Second Director with crew and cast of web series ‘A Letter To Black Men’ 🗣️🎬📽️

This project was set up to fully experience working in TV and it’s well known how rare it is to be the only Director on a series 📺 Collaboration is a big part of filmmaking so it was only right we extended this ethos to the Director role, with the addition of @gdirect on the project 🤝🏾🎞️

It can be worrying to trust someone with your vision but we definitely brought the right person in for the job! 👏🏾 Through making this series I’ve learned the importance of communicating what you want in a way that gives your team room to execute it in their own way - even if you’re still going to eavesdrop around the corner during a take 😂🫣👀

Behind the scenes filming ‘Leopard of Congo’ in Kinshasa 📸🐆🇨🇩

Taken from our second day of filming, we actually shot this scene in a rush on site of an army training camp with minimal crew 🎬🪖

There was an impromptu army training session due to take place the same day we arrived to film 😩 We got held up for a couple of hours by a new guard who wasn’t aware we had received permission from his senior a week before 🤦🏾‍♂️ our Co-Producer (@roi_basafo) managed to negotiate with him to let us start filming with a reduced team but by this point we were racing against the sun ☀️

The final result worked in our favour as we ended up with a warm sunset scene to open the film 🍿 Have you seen the clip from this yet? 👀

New actor @dennis_prkr originally auditioned for a minor role but his self tape proved to be more and he was cast in the recurring role of ‘David’ at the last minute 🎭 no doubt he came through! 🔥 Massive shout to our Casting Assistant @manuela_pierri for making things happen 🙌🏾

I travelled back to Kinshasa a while ago to make a proof of concept film 🎥🍿🇨🇩

based on a biopic film I had written set in DR Congo, I knew it would be a challenge to convey the exact story I wanted to tell and the world I wanted to build without trying it out myself 🌍

The final result has been an eye opener for the possibilities of filmmaking in Africa and the untapped stories still yet to be told 📚 Ready to produce the feature film with enough noise, we will get the support needed to realise the full movie! 🤩

I’ve long explored the idea of telling more African stories 📝 it was only right I travelled back to the motherland to make it happen ✈️

All of my worries went away when I realised the passion for creating art transcends any language or cultural barrier 🌍 Cast and crew went above and beyond to make this vision come to life. My people were so hospitable nothing felt too much of an ask and your only limitation is your imagination 🧠

Behind The Scenes from Day 1 of our web series 📺🎬

We planned to shoot 3 scenes in one location set across different days, so continuity was a big part 😣 The first day is always the most nerve wracking and things didn’t change for this shoot, luckily we weren’t short on script supervision! 📑

One thing I found hardest was coming up with different ways to shoot in the same location 🎥 I had it in my head that these scenes wouldn’t be edited back-to-back anyway so I almost took the easy way out but our Cinematographer @jerry_amadi_pradon_dop was brilliant at suggesting creative angles to make the scene more interesting 🤩

Behind The Scenes from Day 1 of our web series 📺🎬

We planned to shoot 3 scenes in one location set across different days, so continuity was a big part 😣 The first day is always the most nerve wracking and things didn’t change for this shoot, luckily we weren’t short on script supervision! 📑

One thing I found hardest was coming up with different ways to shoot in the same location 🎥 I had it in my head that these scenes wouldn’t be edited back-to-back anyway so I almost took the easy way out but our Cinematographer @jerry_amadi_pradon_dop was brilliant at suggesting creative angles to make the scene more interesting 🤩
